1. Policy Statement

Struktura is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 across Scopes 1, 2, and 3. This policy establishes the framework for how we will measure, reduce, and report our emissions while supporting a transition to a low‑carbon built environment.

This commitment aligns with our organisational vision to enhance the built environment and leave a positive legacy for future generations.

2. Scope of the Policy

This policy applies to all Struktura operations, employees, subcontractors, and activities across the UK and Europe.

It covers the following emissions:

2.1 Scope 1 – Direct Emissions

  • Fuel use in company‑owned vehicles
  • Direct onsite combustion
We will reduce these through fleet electrification, reduced travel, and operational efficiency.

2.2 Scope 2 – Indirect Energy Emissions

  • Purchased electricity used in our offices
We will improve energy performance, consolidate office energy use, and transition to renewable electricity.

2.3 Scope 3 – Value Chain Emissions

  • Employee commuting, business travel
  • Purchased goods and services
  • Waste and water
  • Upstream and downstream project impacts
We will work collaboratively with suppliers, clients, and partners to reduce value‑chain emissions through sustainable procurement, digital design efficiencies, and low‑carbon engineering

3. Current Process

In 2024, Struktura relocated its office from Manchester to Leigh, reducing unnecessary travel and saving 1940 hours of annual commuting and 6.3 tonnes of carbon emissions.
This demonstrates our commitment to operational carbon reduction and informs future initiatives.

4. Pathway to Net Zero

Struktura will progress towards Net Zero by:

4.1 Measurement & Reporting

  • Completing annual carbon footprint assessments
  • Reviewing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emission sources annually
  • Publishing internal progress reports for management review

4.2 Reduction Initiatives

  • Implementing low‑carbon design principles across engineering solutions
  • Improving energy efficiency in our premises
  • Expanding the use of digital tools (e.g., point‑cloud scanning, BIM) to minimise rework and reduce material use
  • Minimising business travel through remote collaboration and improved planning

4.3 Supply Chain Engagement

  • Encouraging sustainable sourcing of materials
  • Collaborating with partners to reduce embodied carbon in project delivery
  • Incorporating sustainability criteria into procurement processes

4.4 Social Value Integration

Struktura recognises that environmental sustainability and social value are interconnected.
We continue to support communities through local charity partnerships, staff volunteering, and providing opportunities for young learners

5. Governance & Responsibilities

  • The Managing Director is accountable for policy oversight.
  • Departmental leads are responsible for integrating carbon‑reduction measures into their operations.
  • All employees are expected to act in alignment with this policy.

Progress will be reviewed annually, with updates incorporated into the management system.

6. Review

This policy will be reviewed every 12 months or sooner if required due to legislative, operational, or organisational changes.
