Structural Survey of The Great Hall – Old Finsbury Town Hall
The Urdang Academy is an inspirational provider of dance and musical theatre training based in the heart of London, established in 1970 the Academy offers its students a prime central location along with a mesmerising place to learn within Finsbury Town Hall. The building itself provides no ordinary performing arts centre, the Grade II listed building is one of London’s hidden gems, steeped in history and boasting a rich Victorian Heritage.
The Urdang Academy engaged Struktura to provide a structural survey of the ceiling and roof structure in the Great Hall. Situated on the ground floor of the property The Great Hall is the largest space in the building created by talented architect Charles Evans-Vaughn. The vast, ornate space provides an inspirational back drop for the students to train and perform, meaning the condition and up keep of the structure must be fit for purpose and for the future.
The purpose of the survey was to determine the condition of both the ceiling and the roof structure of the room and to highlight areas that may need repair, replacement or ongoing maintenance.
Added Value
Struktura presented the survey to the client communicating in detail areas that may need attention, now or in the future and offered advice on the upkeep of buildings of this grade and style of architecture. The team were able to offer this guidance from their experience working on similar projects on buildings from the same era.
In order to present the most accurate data to the client the team used our 3D Scanning Services. Using the scanner meant that the team did not need to use scaffolding in order to take measurements, saving the client time and money. The 3D Scanning services also gave the client an enhanced view and the ability to see areas of importance.
Supporting the client where necessary in their understanding of the building itself, Struktura highlighted areas that would help gain an overall insight into the structure, in order to ensure they were equipped with this knowledge for the future.
Working on projects that require conservation, professionalism and attention to detail is an area of expertise for Struktura. This project brought together Struktura’s knowledge from similar projects and the latest technology to best deliver the findings to the client.
