Twycross Zoo

Continuing to build on our relationship with our client Twycross zoo, Struktura was appointed to provide Civil and Structural design for the introduction of the Gruffalo Discovery Land experience, located within the grounds of the Zoo.

The newly introduced discovery land is set over four-acres and takes the form of a trail leading visitors through the ‘deep dark wood’ from the children’s story ‘The Gruffalo.’ The trail is made up of separate interactive zones, including animatronic characters and their homes complete with sound effects and functionality, and new tunnel structures displaying film clips and touch and feel activities.

The team were appointed to provide the required earthworks and Civil and Structural design of the new pathways leading visitors through the trail and the homes of the interactive characters. Through open and regular communication with the client, the team were able to ensure all the requirements were incorporated into the design including, dedicated indoor and outdoor spaces and areas for replanting, locations for the interactive characters and space to house a stage and the required seating.
